Doubtless you are all aware of the rather excellent Dogbreath comic that the publishers of Zarjaz put out spotlighting stories from the Strontium Dog universe. This contains stories from 2000AD fans as well as the occasional professional 2000AD creator so, like Zarjaz, is always worth a read.
Well speaking to the fine fellows (well.. kind of… I have met them) who put this book together submissions for this title are running a bit low at the moment so they are on the lookout for more contributors. They can team creators up so you can send in either scripts or art samples and I know they are particularly on the look out for well written articles to put in future issues for those of you whose writing is more suited to prose than scripts.
Now don’t think this call out means a slip in quality control or that they will put out sub standard stories, but there’s never been a better time to give them a shot. Even if you dont make the grade you will be told why and get given pointers, which is invaluable to us amateur types.
An additional bonus to getting a story in here is that issues are stocked in Forbidden Planet amongst other comic stores and speaking as someone who did this two weeks ago… going into your local FP and picking up a comic you have worked on is a pretty f*cking cool feeling. I also know that both Zarjaz and Dogbreath are read by the 2000AD pros so its a chance to get your work seen by the guys whose work you enjoy each week.
It’s an anthology title and stories in average range from three to six pages so if you are an aspiring comic creator you’ve got no excuse to avoid this opportunity. I just got a script approved with them and the art deadline is January 2012 so even the Jim Lees amongst you should manage to hit target.
Head on over to their site HERE where you can get full contact details and read a bit more about what they do.
And yes, as someone with a few stories in upcoming issues I AM thinking “Why are you encouraging people to take possible future spots from you… you IDIOT!”. I just cant help myself, I’m that f***ing nice.
If anyone has any questions about the above please feel free to write them in the comments section under this post and any I cant answer I’ll get Team Dogbreath to chip in on. Like I said, I’ve been through the process with them a few times so know their basic requirements.
Good luck. (but not too much obviously)
