Clocking in at 36 pages, One Eyed Jack and the Death of Valiant is an indepth look at the final year’s publication of the early 70s British anthology comic Valiant, before it was absorbed into Battle. Due to the fact Wagner was at the helm during some of this period and the numerous 2000AD names that pop up this makes for a really interesting read for fans of 2000AD, people interested in the history of British comics or even those just after a bit of 70’s nostalgia as the book is littered with covers and artwork from the period.
Split into five sections or chapters the comics final year is analysed, there’s a focus on Dredd forerunner One Eyed Jack, seperate interviews with artist John Cooper and writer John Wagner, and a look at the design elements of the comic.
As mentioned earlier the articles feature numerous illustrations and I particularly enjoyed the feature on logo designs with the numerous examples shown.
Enjoyable and interesting, definitely worth checking out.
