I’m a Doctor Who fan. I like the old stuff. I like the new stuff. Not sure if that makes me more likely to enjoy this comic or less so. That said, I really enjoyed this comic.
The Doctor and Clara arrive at an ice planet to find it’s been transformed into a tropical paradise and…. Doctor Who stuff ensues. I wont spoil the story at all but it involves people with too much money, terraforming and ancient evil. What more do you want?
The art is great and the likenesses are good enough not to pull you out of the story at all. The characterisation is spot on too which I was worried about due to the fact this would have been written if not before the new series then at least during the first few episodes.
And best of all? Unlike a few of the recent television episodes it’s all about the Doctor doing his stuff and being the cleverist guy in the room, not about his companion and her boyfriend and their fucking feelings and relationship bullshit. Seriously, can they either move into the Tardis and get on with it or get torn apart by pissed off Saturnynians? (go look ’em up. I’ll wait)
So bottom line, if you are enjoying the show or like me are enjoying it but occasionally shouting obscenities at the television, this is well worth picking up
I’ll finish with a cracking line of dialogue from the Doctor himself :
“If you’re scared find a sofa to hide behind. There’s one around somewhere. It won’t save you but people seem to find it comforting.”
