Last Saturday I was lucky enough to +1 myself into an advance screening of the Strontium Dog fan film Search Destroy at the Everyman cinema in Leeds.
The version shown was apparently an early cut coming in at 20 minutes. We were told it still needed a bit of refining and there were some effects shots still to be finalised. I didn’t see this. What I saw was 20 minutes of BRILLIANT Strontium Dog action that is more than a worthy successor to the highly and rightly praised Judge Minty film from the same creators. Much bigger in scope and scale than I was expecting and full of familiar faces and weaponry from the comic.
A really good story with action and humour, great performances all round and expertly put together and produced. I obviously don’t want to spoil it and won’t attempt an in depth review without doing so but bottom line… John Wagner was there and he wholeheartedly approved as did everyone else fortunate enough to be in attendance. Job done. You couldn’t ask for a better on screen debut for the characters and as with the last movie it’s amazing to think this is a fan production not an official one. It’s really that good.
Their facebook page says they’re hoping to release this in May 2017. If you’re not excited for this already…start. If you are excited, you need to be more excited!
Oh, and to answer your other question, yes I DID use my Tharg money to get a beer instead of keeping it. I know…I’m a bad nerd.
