It was a sad start to the year when I found out that Jim Baikie had passed away. The comics world has lost an amazing talent and a real inspiration to established and upcoming artists. My first exposure to Baikies work was ‘Skizz’ and that was ‘good’ work…it was later with his color work on ‘The News Statesmen’ for Crisis that blew me away and made me really sit up and take notice. Whenever I’d see Jim Baikies name on a book…it was an automatic buy…and later when going through some old back issues of 2000ad featuring ‘Skizz’…it wasn’t ‘good’ anymore…it was GREAT!
From his more serious work like DC’s ‘Vigilante‘ to the out and out crazy humor of ABC’s ‘The First American’…The guy could draw anything. He will be missed.
In honor of the great man…I will be posting some of his comic book work here over the next few days for everyone to see and marvel at. In the meantime, click on the links below to two great articles about Jim on the Downthetubes website.
