I found out today that Michael Fleisher had passed away on February 2 at the age of 75.
Michael wrote a lot for 2000ad in the 90’s, ‘Junker’ and the revamped/rebooted versions of ‘Rogue Trooper’ and ‘Harlem Heroes’. His best work however was for DC with his run on ‘The Spectre’ and one of my all time favorite comic books ‘Jonah Hex’.
Like most 2000ad readers, I didn’t think Fleisher was a good writer and I didn’t care for his work, but, my opinion on his writing completely flipped when I was lucky enough to read his magnificent ‘Jonah Hex‘ work.
Since discovering his ‘Jonah Hex’, I went out of my way to read his other comics work…and there is a lot!
Creepy, Eerie, Vampirella, Elvira, Man-Thing, Conan, Brave and the Bold, House of Mystery, The Witching Hour…the list goes on. And I can say without doubt that…
Michael Lawrence Fleisher was damn good and one of the best comic book writers I’ve ever read.
