NO COLLUSION! THE SOV INVESTIGATION IS FAKE AND UNFAIR. THE SJS SHOULD INVESTIGATE JUDGE KELLY’S FAKE BADGE AND LET ME GET ON WITH THE BUSINESS OF RUINING THE CITY. SHIT! DID I SAY “RUINING”- I MEANT “RUNNING”. HOW DO I DELETE THESE THINGS? SAD.
John Wagner throws together an OK script and Ron Smith pulls off some substandard fare.
WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT (IN ONE SENTENCE)?:
The investigation of a seemingly spotless citizens leads to a case of espionage and the emergence of the Sovs as a growing threat/pain in the arse.
WHO’S THAT IN THE HELMET?:
Waldo is a freakish looking Judge with buck teeth, jug ears and astoundingly bad hair.
Gibson is based at observation control and helps track Reginald Sweet.
Smith was a Forensics Judge who helped conduct the search of Reginald Sweet’s apartment.
Blain is on hand to comment how brilliant Dredd’s arrest of the Sov ship is.
Molotov is a Sov Judge that Dredd apparently knows. Possibly from Grindr.
ANY LAW LORE?:
Section 59D states that “A Judge may enter a citizen’s home at any time to carry out routine, intensive investigation. The citizen has no rights in this matter.”
A new respirator is being trialled which involves pulling the visor all the way down to the chin.
Despite the 100% arrest rate of such crime blitzes, a certificate of merit signed by the Chief Judge is awarded to citizens who pass the 59D.
A 40-mile limit exists for Mega City 1 territory into the Black Atlantic.
The East Wall is a plasti-barrier.
Spy In The Sky cameras are deployed for the first time in the strip.
Citizens are required to keep at least 15 years’ worth of credit receipts.
New Mutation is a prohibited magazine.
Waldo’s visor is transparent unlike other Judges we have seen and he seems somewhat incompetent.
The Grand Hall appears to be called the Justice Building here.
WHAT THE DROKK?:
The new respirator is impractical as either the visor is rigid (and therefore open at the bottom) and stored in the helmet lining or it is flexible enough to wrap under the chin, in which case it is useless for deflecting bullets (as previously seen).
Vessels (especially East Meg ones) are really allowed within 40 miles of Mega City 1? What if they are armed with nukes or bioweapons?
WHAT’S THE ART LIKE?:
Smith manages to knock this one out of the park despite some unusual moments. I doubt anyone else could have pulled this off, though. There’s some unintentional homoeroticism with Dredd unloading into Molotov’s face and then the Sov Judge licking his lips as Dredd’s weapon swings before his eyes. Still, it probably takes his mind off him trying to finger pop Rodnina.
HOW MANY LINKS?:
Dredd getting some sexy time from the doctor merits this at least six links but we have dark humour, great character moments, action and the beginning of big things here as Wagner develops the Sovs into a threat to the Big Meg. Their interest in the laser defence system can only ever have one goal.
