In an age where asylum seekers are treated like animals by a government that brands itself as being open to people coming there, we examine the tale of a man who is in fact part animal himself. You see, Rex Peters drinks the Blood of Satanus and becomes part man, part reptile. The sequel, where his wife drinks the Spunk of Rex Peters leaves her simply part disgusted and part angry.
Pat Mills tries to poison the well but Ron Smith is able to save the day with some detailed art.
WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT (IN ONE SENTENCE)?:
Rex Peters is unwittingly given the Blood of Satanus and begins to transform into a lizardman.
WHO’S THAT IN THE HELMET?:
The astonishingly named Judge Loolu assists Dredd on the case.
ANY LAW LORE?:
Dredd’s bootknife has an ornate eagle handle.
IT’S CULTURAL, INNIT?:
10 Up is presumably much better than 7 Up. Mind you, rat’s piss is better than 7 Up.
Dredd remarks that the citizen could have left her address after the call, but surely PSU would have been able to find her as she gave her name and her call would have been logged.
Dredd refers to his bootknife as a dagger.
Rex Peters escapes into the “back streets of Old New York” but this was all rockcreted over to make the Undercity, wasn’t it?
Instead of being on the back of his Lawmaster, Dredd’s name is now emblazoned on the left side of his bike computer. He’s the Donald Trump of Judges, wanting to splash his name on everything.
WHAT THE DROKK?:
Dredd is wildly over emotional at the death of a citizen. This story had originally intended to have Lynsey Peters as an ex-girlfriend of Dredd (Pat’s idea to give Dredd some humanity), hence the art. Now I can’t get over the image of Dredd taking some personal time and going home to hammer Lynsey’s clit like the buttons in Daley Thompson’s Decathlon.
The lab has a sample of Satanus’s blood but is forbidden to experiment on it. If it is so dangerous, why has it not been destroyed or locked in a secure Department vault?
So, drinking the blood of dinosaurs turns you into a hybrid? Is this where David Icke got the idea…
Ratfinkle uses a very dated reel to reel tape recorder and apparently does “photocopying” in the 22nd Century.
Despite the fact that he works with Rex and could spike him there, Ratboy had a 50/50 chance of infecting Lynsey with the wine glass trick.
Inexplicably, when Peters decides to kill himself he doesn’t throw himself under a roadliner or off the nearest standing structure, he instead goes all the way to his office to hang himself for co-workers to find. What a charmer.
Dredd’s luring of Peters (by using blood) causes the death of the burglar Dredd has cuffed to the fire escape. Dredd shows no remorse for this criminal negligence so it makes you wonder if he mentioned it in his report.
WHAT’S THE ART LIKE?:
Smith’s art is incredibly detailed in places but confusing too. His hybrid is very Giger like at times but the standout there is the image of Dredd and his fellow officers conducting a robbery standoff in the rain.
HOW MANY LINKS?:
Silly where it should be smart and the jarring picture of Dredd (and what this could have been) throws it all off. Two links.
