Annuals! These were often a real mixed bag of stories from the silly to the sublime and (unlike the recent risible Summer Special) something that was still to be treasured. Orlok does genuinely miss the annuals and even though he is now all digital, he hand still yearns for the weight and feel of a yearly tome, creaking softly open at the Lawmaster specifications. Still, there’s always the Case Files, eh?
John Wagner’s script works well enough and Mick McMahon gives it some dazzle.
WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT (IN ONE SENTENCE)?:
Dredd pursues his perps into the Pin Boing stadium.
Some weird colouring choices for the pads and badge.
WHAT THE DROKK?:
Dredd manages to detonate his bike’s fuel tank at close range and yet this doesn’t vaporise his face.
The final panel is inconsistently coloured compared to the rest of the story, so it looks like Dredd is wearing lipstick. I’m not judging as he looks pretty hot.
WHAT’S THE ART LIKE?:
The pads and badge are the wrong hue and the colour appears to have been washed out of some panels for no good reason. This is distracting and otherwise hampers some quality McMahon fare.
HOW MANY LINKS?:
All in all a fun tale of Dredd blowing creeps away with humorous results and a score being kept throughout. Three links.
