There’s an old Klingon proverb about revenge, but Fink Angel strikes Orlok as the type of man never to have seen a Star Trek film. Still, that doesn’t put the hole dwelling freak off carrying out acts of icy vengeance on the people responsible for killing all of his family. Oh, except the ones who aren’t dead due to come cop out “fire people” horseshit. But that’s just details, innit?
DATELINE:
January 2103 (Progs 193-196).
WHO’S RESPONSIBLE?:
John Wagner and Alan Grant pitch a beauty and Mick McMahon twats it out of the park.
WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT (IN ONE SENTENCE)?:
Fink Angel comes to Mega City One looking for revenge for the death of his family.
WHO’S THAT IN THE HELMET?:
Judge Pilot Larter is killed by Fink Angel, who has him eaten alive by rats.
Judge Barbara Hershey is captured by Fink but is rescued in time.
Judge Steer aids Dredd in his search for the avenging Angel.
The unfortunately named Judge Fodder is killed by one of Fink’s poison pellets. He’s the second Judge with that name to die in the strip.
IT’S CULTURAL, INNIT?:
Fassbidner is probablyRainer Werner Fassbinder, renowned German film director.
WHAT THE DROKK?:
Larter is seen riding a Lawmaster with his Pilot Helmet on. Isn’t this a little impractical?
Steer’s badge is misspelled as Sterr later in the story.
For a newbie in the city, Fink certainly knows a lot about Resyk and the convenient proximity to the Hershey ambush makes this a little iffy.
Hershey’s arms also change position on the belt, even though she is paralysed.
WHAT’S THE ART LIKE?:
Fucking amazing throughout from the panel layouts to the look of the Resyk operations and the brutality that belt provides. That panel of Hershey on the Lawmaster is instantly iconic and it really doesn’t get much better than that.
HOW MANY LINKS?:
It is impossible to give this anything other than seven. It’s a solid revenge story and Wagner cleverly learns the lesson from the Judge Child and keeps his perp alive to fight another day.
