It’s absolutely fine popping a cap in a jaywalker or breaking the jaw of a social justice warrior bent on “equality for all people” but what does one do in the case of an all powerful extra-dimensional entity bent on world domination? Well, without a plucky band of teenagers on BMX bikes, we’re stuck with Joe Dredd leading a chin first assault on the interloper and securing our place as a dimension not to be fucked with…
John Wagner and Alan Grant put Dredd up against a god while Carlos Ezquerra kills it.
WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT (IN ONE SENTENCE)?:
Behemoth the Beast plans to conquer Earth.
WHO’S THAT IN THE HELMET?:
Chief Judge Cal, Ex-Judge Rico Dredd and the Dark Judges Fire, Fear, Mortis and Death put in an appearance at Dredd’s show trial. The latter laments at the fact that dead fucker’s tailor is no longer around.
The elbow and kneepads are the wrong colour.
WHAT THE DROKK?:
It’s weird how Behemoth needs Dredd to make the conquest easier. If he’s all powerful then he doesn’t need anyone or anything to facilitate this. When Dredd even calls this out, it isn’t explained.
WHAT’S THE ART LIKE?:
With circle panels to top it off, the art in this is incredible. The design work of Behemoth’s domain is incredible, as are the scenes in the court. It was also nice to see Rico getting out his enormous chopper. Vienna’s mum was a lucky gal…
HOW MANY LINKS?:
With a nice sense of continuity to earlier stories, this plays well. Junior and Pa are of course dead here as the deaths are taken direct from Dredd’s mind. Of course, this was before all the fire people bullshit. Four links.
