At some stage in their life a person takes stock of their lot and questions “is this all that I am?” and “what’s the point of it all?”. For most of us this is solved with a slap in the face from the wet fish of reality but for some, they never truly get over it. For a Judge this must be extra hard as it’s not like they have anything else to fall back on in terms of career changes or life experience. It must be even worse for someone like Dredd.

WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT (IN ONE SENTENCE)?:
Dredd goes to see his mentor to settle a nagging doubt.

Judge Morphy gave Dredd his full eagle and still provides a wise head to dole out advice.
WHAT THE DROKK?:
Morphy’s badge reads “Morph” here.
WHAT’S THE ART LIKE?:
Smith pulls off some lovely panel work and there is something unnerving about seeing Dredd smile.
HOW MANY LINKS?:
The Apocalypse Day Parade has just the right mix of humour we have come to expect in that we have fucking maniacs celebrating the carnage unleashed upon millions only two years ago. But guess there were good people on both sides of the conflict. And they have a permit to do it, so…
The very passive and matter of fact way both Dredd and Morphy deal with the crowd is excellent. This is the first seed of doubt with Dredd in his role as a killer. It is also the start of his mitigation of the issue via his employment of the tight boots as a coping mechanism. A different kind of tale but great nonetheless. Five links.
