Script: Wagner/Grant, Art: Ian Gibson
Date- May 2107 (419)
The Plot- A rotting corpse leads Dredd to investigate a poisoning.
Outside of Mr Ross’s basement where his former wives are interred, there is very little need to investigate a cadaver. That said, if you do have to drag one out of the ground or a display case, it’s a good idea to double down on the air freshener. Orlok once discovered a dead rat in his chimney and that stank to high heaven so one can only imagine what a human stuff would smell like. Swansea, probably.
Helmets- Forensics Judge Fisk reveals the details of Smeld’s poisoning.
Cultural- The preserved Ron and Nance “Gone cruising with Grud” has to be then US President Ronald Reagan and his astrology loving wife Nancy.
Law Lore- There appears to be a form of the Fifth Amendment in place where silence is a defence under the Law.
Definite proof of a crime being committed needs to be obtained before the Dream Machines or truth drugs can be used on a suspect.
Art– This is really quirky stuff from Gibson and his art suits this tale as he can draw wrinkles just as well as weirdos.
Links– Four. The art works well and it was fascinating to see the legality of arrest and suspect questioning laid out. The script is clever enough to explore why the normal tools of the Department aren’t employed against the more savvy perps.
