John: Whilst being exploited as a member of the child labour force of the 70’s in Great Britain, John saw the very first 2000 AD on the shelves of his local paper shop (newsagents) at about 6:30 am, as he was filling his sack with the morning papers, to deliver in the smog filled wastelands of the North East. He pointed it out to Mr B#@@#t, his slave boss and was told that it was some sort of Star Wars comic. He then asked for it to be put by until he had his meagre wage packet and could pay for it! Once in his possession he was hooked, mainly on the clean cut Dan Dare, until he vanished with his Cosmic Claw and then Dredd took over as top dog for John.
Flint: My Dad brought home the first issue of 2000ad because he liked Dan Dare as a kid and this new comic had Dare as the main star. I was instantly hooked…but not on Dredd but on Dan Dare. Absolutely loved the stunning art and bizarre aliens. It was when Dredd had his ‘Cursed Earth’ moment that he became my favorite character of all time.
Rossy: Pootato!
