The Moon. Ask Steve Ross about it and he’ll inevitably point to Stanley Kubrick filming Neil and Buzz in a Burbank studio but every other sane person will tell you how actual humans went there. Following in the footsteps of these brave men is Judge Dredd, who is just about to receive a chopper from behind courtesy of someone called “Fred”…
DATELINE:
November 2099 (Prog 42).
WHO’S RESPONSIBLE?:
JohnWagner moves Dredd out of his comfort zone and Ian Gibson brings a good game to the art.
WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT (IN ONE SENTENCE)?:
Dredd is appointed Marshal of Luna 1.
WHO’S THAT IN THE HELMET?:
Judge Tex shows his cowardly face.
ANY LAW LORE?:
The Luna Law Book extends to at least 7 volumes.
Dredd lets loose with a Drokk bomb at Walter. Get told, tinribs.
The International Lunar Treaty of 2061 established a million square kilometres of Mega City rule. Every six months one of these cities has to supply the Luna 1 colony with a Judge Marshal.
IT’S CULTURAL, INNIT?:
Teddy Laker’s Spacetrain is a nice nod to Freddie Laker’s Skytrain which was popular at the time.
WHAT THE DROKK?:
Tex seems to be a Texan stereotype. This does not bode well.
Walter is somewhat put out that there is another robot in Dredd’s closet. I guess he should be the only one in that role, eh?
Triumvirate is spelled incorrectly.
Dredd is alarmed at noises coming from his “trunk”. See a doctor, Joe.
WHAT’S THE ART LIKE?:
Still beautiful and this serves as a good into to the Luna architecture and layout
HOW MANY LINKS?:
Going off world so soon seems a massive departure but it is pleasing we get some development of other Judge systems, if only on a basic level. It does seem a little odd that North American Megs would have the only city on Luna 1. Unless there are more of course. Three links for this one.
